"We Build Champions for Life"

The Dream of Huntzinger's Karate began in the early eighties.  It was started with just three students and no permanent facilities. Training was often held in damp basements with poor lighting, and when that became too stifling, we went outdoors under an even more tormenting sun. What was lacked in amenities was made up for with pure intensity, emotion and an iron will to make this a success.

1983 marked a very important year for Huntzinger's Karate officially open to the public. There was a "Grand Opening" show in Mountaintop, PA. Enrollment grew to twenty-eight students two classes a week at what was "Tony's Pizza". All ages and skill levels participated together.

In 1985 Huntzinger's Karate celebrated its first Black Belt promotion.  Enrollment hit 36 full time students with classes being held three times a week, again all ages and skill levels participated together.

We took a step back in 1987 to evaluate the program, deciding to move Huntzinger's Karate into my home. We promoted two more Black Belts and held our first awards banquet at the Chalet Restaurant in Mountaintop, PA.

In 1989 Huntzinger's Karate began to come down from the mountain, literally! Moving the studio from Mountaintop, PA to Wilkes-Barre, PA. Over the years all of the students finally migrated down and in 1990 Huntzinger's Karate moved into what is now our current location at 738 Township Road, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.  The Karate Club at Wilkes-Barre Academy an elite private school in the Wyoming Valley was also founded.

The separate child and adult classes began in 1995, followed by a class for Women's self-defense and a self-defense class for local prison guards. Enrollment was now up to 75 full time students. 1996 brought the first Black Belt promotion from a student who started at Wilkes-Barre Academy, bringing the schools total to 9.

In 1998 Huntzinger's Karate began to go on the road competing, Mr. Huntzinger became number 3 in Forms, number 3 in Weapons and number 4 in Fighting in the World Black Belt Rankings. The school continued to grow and our Awards Banquet was moved to the Brass Rail where we could accommodate our 200 guests.

Many students traveled with Mr. Huntzinger. This benefited the Huntzinger's Karate twofold as Mr. Huntzinger and students were getting used to the requirements of higher levels of competition and sharing this knowledge with the students who currently were not traveling. A natural outgrowth of the tournament hopping was the creation of Team Tora - Huntzinger's Karate's very own National Tournament team. By 1999 the Awards Banquet had grown to over 300 plus held at the Genetti Hotel and Center Grand Ballroom.

The start of the New Millennium 2000 brought Huntzinger's Karate to 139 students 50 Black Belts, classes seven days a week curriculum for students ranging from 4 years old to 64 years young! In Addition, private lessons, Seminars and Huntzinger's Karate's own World Class Martial Artists were helping to add to our growth. Another important milestone was hosting our first Karate Tournament at Luzerne County Community College. Huntzinger's Karate and Team Tora present, "Wyoming Valleys Mid Atlantic Classics".

In 2001 Mr. Huntzinger was voted World Karate Union's "Master Instructor of the Year".

Mr. Huntzinger and his staff signed on as World Cup promoters, and in March of 2002 filled Genetti's Convention Center in Wilkes-Barre, PA for the "Wyoming Valleys Mid Atlantic Classic's" now a World Class rated event. A complete success the local media dubbed Wilkes-Barre as the Karate Capital of the USA! Huntzinger's Karate and Team Tora opened the event with an awe inspiring Patriotic Martial Arts show, back dropped by a sixty foot American Flag the heart pounding, feet stamping demonstration brought the audience to its feet! The event was a complete success adding to Huntzinger's Karate goal of becoming a dominant force in the Martial Arts world.

Currently enrollment is just under 200 students, with 60 black belts. "We have been around awhile but remember this is only the beginning."
